Before the release of adobe acrobat 8, acrobat did not have redaction tools, so redaction of a pdf file required third-party software or plug-ins. acrobat 8, acrobat 9 and acrobat x have tools that will cover redacted words and images with a colored box or replace them with custom text.. Redaction is the process of permanently removing visible text and graphics from a document. you use the redact tools to remove content. in place of the removed items, you can have redaction marks that appear as colored boxes, or you can leave the area blank.. Redaction in adobe also includes redaction of images and can be redacted in a similar way. once the area is selected, you can click on the "apply redaction" button located towards the right side.
Adobe does provide a redaction tool, but this only available with the professional product. as noted redax is a 3rd party product from applignet and was one of the few products that provided redaction prior to the release of acrobat 8 professional for redacting pdf files.. You'll notice that under "protect pdf files and content > permanently delete sensitive information, including specific text or illustrations, with redaction tools", standard is not included. and again, redaction is available with acrobat 9 pro.. With acrobat professional you could use the redaction tool. however, acrobat standard does not include that tool. something also available with pro, that may be available with standard as well -.
